Civil War in the Pacific Northwest
In 1849, the United States established the Army's Fort Vancouver next to the Hudson's Bay Company's Fort. This site was the regional headquarters and supply hub for the entire Pacific Northwest, and it remained the base for Army activities throughout the Civil War period and well into the 20th century.
